Community Macmillan Palliative Care Nurse Specialists provide a service in the home for patients with a diagnosis of cancer or other life limiting illness who have complex physical and psychosocial needs requiring expert intervention. They have specialist skills and knowledge and work closely with GPs and community nursing teams to plan care and manage complex symptoms to meet the needs of patients.
The Macmillan Palliative Care Nurse Specialists provide care which includes:
- undertaking specialist assessments of needs and providing expert information, advice and support to improve the quality of lives for patients with complex physical, psychological and emotional needs
- helping patients make informed decisions about their treatment and promoting advance care planning
- working with the community and hospital nursing teams to assist patients to optimise their quality of life and achieve their preferred place of care
- providing support to the family and carers, ensuring appropriate referrals are made for advice and support
The Macmillan Nurses work closely with local hospices and other providers of palliative and end of life care. They operate a weekday service during normal office hours and are a proactive non-emergency service.

Cruse Bereavement Care Service
If you have been affected by a bereavement and feel you need support you can contact us on 01205 37396 or email email@example.com
Boston and District Cruse is a branch of the national leading charity, Cruse Bereavement Care.
Locally, we provide a range of support services, to those who are struggling with bereavement, including one to one support in people's own homes or at one of our offices (Butterfly Hospice and Centenary Methodist Church). We also provide information and signposting services as well as working towards improving the local community's approach to bereavement care.
We are a team of Volunteers who have experience of and have been trained in bereavement care. We know that many people who are coping with bereavement issues feel isolated and alone in their grief and to be able to share their concerns and anxieties with someone does help to alleviate some of the pain and anguish.
We cover Boston and District as well as parts of East Lindsey, South Kesteven and South Holland.
As a voluntary organisation we are entirely reliant on local funding and as such we run a number of fundraising events throughout the year. If you would like to join us at these events or help with fundraising, contact us on 01205 357396 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Cruse nationally provides a telephone helpline on 0844 477 9400 as well as email and website support for children and young people, Freephone 0808 808 1677, www.rd4u.org.uk, as well as adults. www.crusebereavementcare.org.uk.
At Cruse we are always looking for volunteers to help with all aspects of our work. We are looking for fundraisers, and volunteers to serve on our management committee.
We are also looking for Office Support Volunteers and Bereavement Volunteers. All our volunteers receive support and training as part of their induction.
