ACCESS STATEMENT

This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our staff and visitors.

Introduction

Situated in the historic town of Boston, Lincolnshire the Butterfly Hospice is of a single storey construction with 5 bedrooms designed for people with palliative care needs.

The hospice is situated just outside the grounds of Pilgrim Hospital which is near to the centre of the town.

We have 5 accessible bedrooms suitable for wheelchair users with step free access. All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms. The en-suite bathrooms have a level entry shower with handrails fitted throughout e.g. shower and toilet.

Pre-Arrival

By Rail

There are rail links between Boston railway station, Grantham, Sleaford and Skegness serving the surrounding areas and nationally.

By Bus

Boston central bus station is approximately 500 mtrs by foot from the Railway station.
Between 0910 and 1610hrs there is a bus (Brylane number 1C7 to Skegness) which will take you to Hospital lane. Exit the bus and proceed down Hospital lane, taking the second right in to Linden Way.
Follow the road to a left hand bend and carry on along Linden Way until you get to Rowan Way on the right. The Hospice is situated at the far end of Rowan way.
It will take approximately 15 minutes by foot from the bus stop.

By Taxi

Wheelchair accessible Taxis can be found at the town centre, Railway and Bus stations and the town centre.

The road outside the hospice has a wide paved footpath.

Car Parking and Arrival

There is ample parking on site with two Blue Badge parking spaces available

The car park surface is tarmac leading to the main entrance. The car park is well lit at night and the path has downlighters

There is a drop off point at the main entrance of the hospice with a dropped kerb.

The main entrance door is part automatic and part manual with the automatic door on the left side as you approach. The size of the opening is 850mm/33.5ins wide, light to push and opens outwards

Main Entrance / Reception / Welcome Area

Reception is on the ground floor and has level access throughout.
The floor surface throughout the lobby is wooden slat
The area is evenly and well lit with overhead lighting
A hearing loop system is being installed at reception and staff will be trained in its use.
A magnifying glass, pen and pad of paper are available on request.
A familiarisation tour is available on request.

Public Areas

All public areas are well lit using ceiling lighting
Corridors are 2400mm/94.5ins wide and the floor covering is Wooden slat

Public Areas - Lounges, Lobbies
The lounge area is situated along a corridor with level entry from the reception and main entrance area.
The lounge door is 840mm/33ins wide.
The room has a mixture of seating with sofas and soft chairs with arms together with low coffee tables.
Lighting is natural daylight via patio doors and by night overhead lighting is used as well as table lamps around the room.
The flooring is wooden slat in both the lounge and the lobby.
The nearest toilets are in reception and include an accessible toilet.

Public Rest rooms
Public rest rooms are situated along a corridor with level entry from the reception and main entrance area benefiting from a unisex accessible toilet, described below:

Entrance door 850mm/33.5ins wide and level entry into the toilet.
The toilet height is 480mm/19ins.
There are vertical rails either side of both basin and toilet.
There is a horizontal rail on the side wall adjacent to the toilet.
An emergency alarm pull cord through to the Nurses station
The toilets are well lit with fluorescent overhead lighting
The flooring is non-slip laminate.
There are lever taps on the sinks.
There are also Gents and Ladies WCs which have the same lighting, flooring, lever taps as above.

Grounds and Gardens
We have 3 acres of grounds with a mixture of grass, small trees and shrubberies and several arbour areas
Areas closest to the hospice are flat; further away the ground is undulating with gentle inclines.
There is a firm red tarmac footpath, 1830mm/72ins wide, to take you around the grounds.
Seating is available at arbour areas of approximately 30 metres from the Hospice

Conference Room
Our conference room is situated along a corridor with level entry from the reception and main entrance.
The doors are 840mm/33ins wide, light and easy to open.
The room has natural lighting with patio doors to the gardens
In the evening there is overhead lighting
Upright chairs with or without arms are available. Tables have a clear space of 700mm/27.5ins from the floor.
The flooring is wooden slat

Additional Information

All of our staff receive regular training that includes disability awareness training.
We have a set of evacuation procedures – should you require assistance someone will assist you in evacuation the premises
A water bowl can be made available just outside the main entrance for assistance dogs and one can be supplied for bedrooms where necessary.
The nearest General Hospital with an A&E unit and walk in NHS facility is 500 metres away on foot with direct pedestrian access from the Hospice.
